Supplementing SEO

12/02/2020

It's well known that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is one of the most important ways to attract visitors to your website, but there are also many other ways you can give your visitor count a boost. Although not all of these strategies are relevant to every business, it's worth considering if any would be appropriate for your target audience.

Online Directories

Ensuring your business is listed on relevant online directories and review sites - such as Yell, TripAdvisor, Checkatrade, etc. - may seem simple but it could help increase your visibility and trustworthiness. For some individuals, they will choose to only use tried and tested businesses, so ensuring you have a profile on these websites will act almost like another mini website of your own, showing off your work and positive reviews. Make sure you review your profile regularly to keep your details up-to-date and reply to any comments swiftly. Adding a link to your website can help with generating additional traffic and SEO too.

YouTube

YouTube is the second biggest social network, with over 1.5 billion active users every month and over 5 billion videos watched every day. If you can create some interesting content about your business sector, this could draw in visitors to your website, providing you add a link to your website in the description. Your video content needs to be relevant, unique and valuable to your target audience, so thorough research is required. Services or products aimed at younger audiences could work particularly well on YouTube, such as product reviews/guides or showing off how great your product is.

Email Marketing

We have written about the benefits of using email marketing before, but it’s still up there as one of the best ways to generate traffic to your website. Once an individual is on your mailing list, they should be treated as a prize gem, since you can be assured they are not only interested in your business, but want to be kept informed regularly. There are many ways to execute successful email marketing campaigns, but doing the small things right, like using clear, simple messages and call-to-actions will help to improve your click through rate.

Social Media Marketing

On average, people spend around 2 hours and 23 minutes on social media every day. By posting regularly, adding relevant hashtags and using captivating images you can reach a huge amount of potential customers, particularly on Instagram and Facebook. It can take some dedication to craft your posts and build your followers to the point where the relevant algorithms will really begin to work for you, however, you can also pay for adverts too, which can boost the exposure of your posts. Ensuring you are targeting the right audience is important; just because you may have a lot of likes or followers, won't directly correlate to a lot of sales or goal conversions, but choosing the right keywords can really help.

Influencers

This one could be a bit more challenging and risky to pull off, but if you can, it has the potential to pay off. An influencer is simply, someone who influences other people via social media. Finding the right influencer is the key to success; they need to be relevant to your audience and have similar beliefs to your business too. Some smaller influencers may take a freebie as payment, but the more influential they are, the more this could cost, which is another reason you need to pick the right person for the job. Influencers instil confidence in your product or service, which makes potential customers much more likely to make a purchase.
